…training and registration are free
The training programme announced by Governor Udom Emmanuel for youths of Akwa Ibom State and christened Ibom 3000 project, will commence on January 11, 2021 as registration begins across the thirty one Local Government Areas, through Local Government Coordinators of Enterprise Development Centres and via the website, www.ibommarketplace.com
This was disclosed on Friday, during a Press Conference held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Trade and Investment, by the Honourable Commissioner of the training’s coordinating Ministry, Honourable Prince Ukpong Akpabio
He listed specialties considered by the State Chief Executive for sponsorship to include Oil and gas, Information Communication Technology, Agriculture, Business Education for Small and Medium Scale Enterprise, among others.
He said the training will accommodate 3000 youths, but due to Covid-19 protocol, the training will be divided into three phases of 1000 trainees for each batch, and the first set of trainees will be selected on a “first come first serve” basis.
According to the Honourable Commissioner, the oil and gas training is for people between eighteen (18) and thirty five (35) years because of the tasks involved, but other areas of the training are not age sensitive.
The Trade and Investment Boss stressed that the training, which is completely free, is not a political party affair but for every Akwa Ibom citizen that is interested in any of the areas available.
Akpabio furthered “it will be an error for us to have the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone, but do not have the man power to work there. We want to make sure that before operation kicks off, we would have had our people properly trained to work there and in other places that will open up like the Ibom Deep Seaport.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel is particularly excited about the prospect of Akwa Ibom state youths in the Oil and Gas Industry owing to what the future. His Excellency pursues the agenda of indigenous workforce and local content for the future oil and gas market in Akwa Ibom state.”
“Agriculture continues to be the emphasy of Governor Emmanuel as it is his dream for Akwa Ibom state to be self sufficient and hence the reason agriculture receives special consideration in Ibom 3000 Project.
“There is no doubt that the new world order makes ICT compulsary for every society and hence the priority of place that ICT receives under Ibom 3000 Project.
“Small and Medium Scale Enterprises is this administration’s best bet in it’s ambitious desire to create jobs for every Akwa Ibom people and that Ibom 3000 makes SME education compulsory for all the one thousand participants that will make it to the first phase of this training”.
He explained that Governor Udom Emmanuel through the training seeks to build capacity, develop SMEs and empower 3000 families yearly through the youths.
Recall that on October 28, 2020, the Commissioner had set up Coordinators of Enterprise Development Centres in all Local Government Areas.
The Coordinators, who were nominated by their respective Local Government Chairmen were tasked by the Ministry of Trade and Investment to coordinate the training in their Local Government Areas, focus on identifying and marketing local products found in Akwa Ibom State.
